Say hello to Cindi and Randy Segler
Tell us a little bit about yourself. What you do for work, your family, your hobbies- the fun stuff!
We moved to Edmond about 5 years ago after Randy retired from health care administration, primarily to be close to our daughters and grandchildren. We enjoy being close enough to see them all often, having weekly family dinners and other activities, etc..Cindi loves to cook and Randy enjoys landscaping and gardening.
Which City Care program do you volunteer with?
We volunteer at the City Care Night Shelter
Describe your Volunteer Role. What is your favorite thing about it?
We primarily serve dinner at the Night Shelter. Cindi serves every week, often cooking and providing a full meal for the residents when meals aren’t available from other resources. We also serve a meal provided by Crossings Community Church with other church members on a monthly basis. Randy also just joined the committee planning the new Respite Care Facility to be built next to the Night Shelter.
What inspires you to volunteer with City Care?
We are inspired by the gratitude of the residents and their positive attitudes towards their life challenges. We have seen many get successfully housed and it’s a blessing to see the progress in their lives.
How has volunteering made a difference in your life?
We are blessed to be able to help those in difficult situations. It inspires us to continue doing what we can to make their lives a little brighter. We both enjoy getting to know the residents and find them to be most appreciative of anything and everything you do. They are good people living their lives under extremely difficult circumstances.
Why have you chosen to partner with City Care?
We believe and experience the excellent services offered at the Night Shelter by the caring staff and other volunteers. City Care offers invaluable services on many fronts to those in need. It is rewarding to see their emphasis on getting people housed and assisting them along that journey in so many ways. We encourage everyone to try volunteering with City Care. If you do…you will love it!
